TERMS & CONDITIONS


Full terms and conditions for Cakes by Alison are detailed below.


PAYMENT AND DEPOSITS


All prices are based on your exact cake design, size and flavours as discussed and agreed.  Following your consultation/enquiry, our quote is valid for a period of 30 days. Payment of a 50% non-refundable deposit will secure your cake and chosen date in the diary with Cakes by Alison.


If your deposit is not paid within 30 days of quoting then we reserve the right to cancel any previous arrangements.


Bank transfer, cash or cheques are accepted for the deposit but cheques cannot be used as payment method for the final payment. cheques should be made payable to Alison Womack.


PAYMENT


Bank transfer details will be issued upon request.  Final payment for your wedding cake is required no later than 2 weeks before delivery/collection. I will notify you for final payment 3 weeks before your wedding if not already received at this point.  If final payment is not then received by the 2 week deadline and cleared in our account, then delivery/collection of the order will be suspended.


Please notify us with confirmation of the transfer in order to prompt acknowledgment of the payment.  Final payment for your celebration cake can be made on the day of the collection (same day bank transfer or cash).

cheques cannot be used as payment method for the final payment.


CANCELLATION


If cancellation of an order takes place we reserve the right to retain our non-refundable 50% deposit. If cancellation takes place less than 7 days before the event then we reserve the right to seek full payment of the order value.


Cancellation must be made in writing (by letter or email) to Cakes by Alison and will only be deemed to take effect from the date your letter/email is received and acknowledged.


In the event of postponement we will endeavour to transfer your order provided the date is suitable for ourselves. Otherwise cancellation procedure applies as above.


Under exceptional circumstances beyond our control, such as fire or ill health, we reserve the right to cancel the order. We will refund all money taken in full.


DELIVERY CONDITIONS


Delivery charges are dependent upon mileage. Alternatively, cakes can be collected from our premises.


If you choose delivery, it is our intention that your cake will be delivered in perfect condition to your venue at the time agreed.  However, there may be factors beyond our control (e.g. traffic conditions) and we cannot be held liable for any such delays.  In some circumstances, we may recommend the cake be delivered 1 day in advance.  It is your responsibility to ensure you inform us of your correct ceremony and event time plus the address of the venue. In the unlikely event of late delivery, the maximum compensation will be a refund of the delivery price.


We cannot be held liable for damages to the cake at the venue once we have left the premises.  For this reason we require somebody responsible, to check that they are happy with the cake before we leave.


If you choose to collect the cake, we will not be held liable for any damage to the cake once it has left our premises.  Tiered cakes are most at risk during transport; we highly recommend you check your wedding insurance covers cake damage.  To ensure your cake is as fresh as possible, we recommend it be collected the day before the wedding.


Late requests for delivery (after securing the booking based on collection) will be accommodated where possible, but cannot be guaranteed, as earlier delivery commitments must take priority.


CAKE SETUP


It is your responsibility to ensure arrangements are in place for cake setup.  The cake table, linen, cake stand (if not hiring from Cakes by Alison) and knife, should all be set up prior to our arrival.  If there is any delay incurred due to these not being set up, we reserve the right to charge (labour/time costs at €10.00 per hour).  Alternatively, please arrange for the cake to be left with the event manager to assemble/move into position as appropriate.  A stable cake table is essential if you are having a marquee wedding, as movement of the floor can easily dislodge the cake.


DAMAGES


Please remember that cakes and their decorations are very delicate, and we cannot accept responsibility for damage that is done to the cake after it has left our possession.


Cakes by their nature are fragile and require care and attention when handling, storing and displaying to prevent damage occurring.  Care is required when displaying your cake.  Avoid direct spotlights, candle, direct sunlight and sources of moisture.  Cakes by Alison does not accept liability for cakes that are damaged during display.


CAKE DESIGN


Cakes by Alison will aim to match your icing colour requests, but due to variations during processes we cannot guarantee an exact match. We aim for the closest possible match, but this may not always be possible.


It is your responsibility to read and check the quote and design thoroughly; any amendments to the design should be made in writing.  Design amendment requests may not always be possible, due to the nature of the request, time-frame or composition of the cake. If the alteration affects the cost, or preparation work for the original design has already been undertaken, then your outstanding balance will be adjusted accordingly.  Please advise us when you pay your deposit if you are undecided on the design.


We reserve the right to change the design at any point if circumstances beyond our control, may compromise the quality of the finished cake, e.g. melting due to weather.  You will be notified before any amendments are made.


Each cake is unique and made individually by hand, so although every effort is made to ensure consistency, a small amount of variation may occur from the design requested and/or picture supplied.


PORTION GUIDE


Our portion guides are intended as a guide only.  This will vary dependent upon how the chef cuts the cake.


ALLERGIES AND SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS


Please discuss with us if you or any of your guests have special dietary requirements.  Cakes can be made gluten free/egg free and alcohol free.  With tiered cakes special dietary requirements can apply to only one tier if necessary.  Design of the overall cake can be affected by these special requirements as to avoid cross-contamination.


Please be aware that although ingredients such as nuts can be removed from the cakes I cannot guarantee 100% that any cake is completely nut free.


NON-EDIBLE ITEMS


Most cakes contain small proportions of inedible items, e.g. support dowels in tiered cakes, ribbon, wires in sugar flowers, flower picks, etc.  A list of these items will be supplied with the cake. It is the client’s responsibility to ensure these are removed by your caterer/guests before consumption.


If using fresh flowers for your cake decoration, please remember that some flowers e.g. Ivy, are poisonous and not suitable for use on food products.  You should notify your flower supplier of your intention to use the flowers on food to ensure that non-poisonous flowers are used.


BEST BEFORE DATE/STORAGE CONDITIONS


Your cake is baked fresh for the date of your event, we cannot guarantee the quality if it’s consumed more than 48 hours after the event (with the exception of fruit cake containing alcohol).  Our cakes are made entirely of natural ingredients and contain no additives or preservatives so because of this, will not have the extended shelf-life of most supermarket cakes.  Freezing the cake however, preserves the taste of the sponge and icing as much as feasibly possible, but please bear in mind that it will affect the visual appearance of the icing, as condensation will form after defrosting.


Food hygiene recommendations recommend that cake should only be frozen for a maximum of 1 month.


Cakes covered in sugarpaste should not be refrigerated, as it will cause condensation to form on the surface of the icing and ruin the cakes appearance.


If you plan to keep any of the cake tiers, please advise us what cake boxes you would like to be left on site (for safe transportation the following day).  Otherwise we shall remove all cake boxes from the venue to ensure we leave it as tidy as possible.


HIRE OF CAKE STAND/ACCESSORIES


If you would like to hire a cake stand, then a cash deposit is required prior to release and a hire charge of €10.00.


Deposit amounts vary dependent upon the value of the item being hired.


Please make arrangements to ensure items hired are safely returned to us within 7 days of the cake release.


Once we receive the hired item back we will release the deposit held subject to no breakages.


COMPLAINTS


If you have concerns about your cake, please notify us upon collection/delivery of the cake so that we have the opportunity to rectify it in time for your event.  All other concerns should be made in writing, and the evidence should be included. No refunds are given due to change of mind.


In the unlikely event of late delivery, the maximum compensation will be refund of the delivery price. We ask for patience with factors that are beyond our control (e.g. traffic conditions) as we cannot be held liable for any such delays.


Refunds are at the discretion of Cakes by Alison.
